D.O.B.: December 12, 1986
WAND: 8.75", unicorn hair, poplar
PATRONUS: A whispy, cautious rabbit
DESCRIPTION: Standing at 5'9", Lex is a bit tall for a woman, yet she owns it well and is not afraid to wear heels on occasion. Her long, waist-length brown hair is typically kept pinned back into a ponytail with a barrette, french braided, or kept in an up-do. On her days off, you might find her with a messy bun if she's not expecting company or to be seen by those she knows. Although she does have contacts, her brown eyes are often hidden behind somewhat rectangular, dark glasses as she is a bit near-sighted. She has a birth mark on the right side of her neck that can be seen below the hairline if one looks for it. It's not overly dark yet decidedly there. She has a rose tattooed above her little toe (similar to but a bit smaller with stem upward, flower toward toe).
PLAY-BY: Troian Bellisario
MIRROR OF ERISED: To be able to let go of her personal restraints is Lex's deepest desire, although she doubts that would ever happen at least not without the ability to become "normal."
BOGGART: Lex is deathly afraid of snakes. She can handle bugs and spiders, but even the quick movement of a lizard in her peripheral will often throw her on high alert for snakes. However, she is a bit afraid of what might transpire should she run into an old classmate or be uncovered as a witch in her new department.
✓ Measured. Lex seldom does or says anything without some degree of thought behind it. She's found this worked spectacularly well growing up with the parents she had. They seemed to listen better if she mostly minded and only towed the line with more logic-based pleas than emotion-based. Some take this as stand-offishness, others shyness. It all depends what side of Lex you see and your view on life in general. (Doesn't help she has major resting bitch face.) In reality, though, Lex has growing to do with her still new-feeling status as "adult." Unfortunately, adulting hardly comes with an instruction manual.
✓ Hard-working. Lex applies herself to whatever task has been assigned her. Thus far, her experience has been at school and her work ethic only tried by the news on Hogwarts and the wizarding world, yet she has always been this way and sees no reason for work to be any different, particularly when she's using her knowledge in an interesting way and figures she is likely to be faced with new challenges and ways of seeing things than she's been through before.
✓ Intense. Lex tends to become strongly focused on anything posing a problem, not allowing the subject to rest until she has found a potential solution. As such, she's at risk of becoming one of those to bring her work home with them. Some have been intimidated by this "obsession" factor before, preferring rather to distance themselves until Lex returns to planet earth.
✓ Honest. Lex values honesty above all. It has proven to be both a blessing and a curse as it was but one factor which made her teacher's pet. She had no qualms with "tattling" as she viewed it as a way to make the classroom more bearable and life in general. As such, it kept her from making friends often in primary school prior to Hogwarts but made it easier on her as a teenager when trust was the determining factor in her outings with friends over summer and winter holidays.
• Paternal Great-grandmother: Ethel Taylor, aged 108. Squib. Retired, in a care home with dementia.
• Mother: Lillian Taylor, aged 60. Muggle. Accountant set to retire later this year.
• Father: Charles Taylor, aged 57. Muggle. Legal secretary.
• Sister: Charlene Taylor-Caldwell aged 34. Muggle. Primary school teacher.
Childhood began normal yet quickly took a weird turn at age ten. Things would happen when she'd get angry or sad. Lights would flicker, things would move, break. To say her parents were a bit afraid of her at this point would be an understatement. She was often allowed to do what she wanted for a while until her parents decided a bit more overbearing would be the best approach.
Great Grandmum Ethel was her saving grace. Hearing stories from her own daughter about what a nightmare that little Alexandra had become seemed to draw Ethel's attention to her great granddaughter. Her visits became much more frequent until, one day, she sat Alexandra down all prim and proper-like. "Very soon," she said, "you'll be receiving a letter by owl."
The statement was an odd one, and Lex honestly took said statement lightly. Great Grandmum was known to have the early stages of dementia, and surely this was something someone with dementia would say. At least based on what research the child had done on the internet after hearing the word. Still, Lex smiled politely and allowed her to carry on. What came out of her mouth next was hardly what the young girl had expected. "You're a witch, Lexi."
Lex humored her Great Grandmum for the moment and let her spin her yarn about a magical school called Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and how she would show her around Diagon Alley when she received her letter.
Lex continued about her year in primary school, receiving high marks in all her classes, but as Great Grandmum had promised, a letter did arrive and not in the post box. It had her name, and it looked like something one might expect from a movie prop. Her parents thought it a joke at first. Lex was terrified to tell them what she'd been told, yet after a week and seven letters more, she quietly came out with it. She was laughed at. The letters kept coming.
A visit from Great Grandmum Ethel the third week of letters saw a change in her parents' tune as she took Lex to Diagon Alley and provided Lex with her wand, textbooks, and school uniform and robes. The textbooks seemed to be the tipping point. That amount of detail could not be faked, yet...
Due to being on the right side of the December cut-off, she began Hogwarts the youngest in her class and was sorted into Ravenclaw. School was relatively uneventful aside from her first year being the year Albus Dumbledore was killed. She kept on top of her studies at Hogwarts just as she had at her muggle primary school, often stressing as her parents sent her home studies to try to keep her on track for a "proper education" following Hogwarts. Always the people pleaser, Lex complied, but it left little time for extracurriculars or an abundance of friends.
Once Lex completed Hogwarts, she returned home to her parents. Things were tense as she argued she was of age and they argued she wasn't and pushed her toward completing her studies. Lex complied with not as much argument as one would hope.
Lex was newly 21 and a uni student studying applied sciences when she received the copy of the Daily Prophet announcing the December 18, 2008, attacks on Hogwarts and the Ministry. She had had little contact with the wizarding world as her parents had insisted such trivialities would only interfere with her studies. The news in the following months was shocking. The government had been overturned and laws were becoming stricter. Pretty soon, her copy of the Daily Prophet was replaced with a piece of paperwork identifying her as a muggle-born and therefore an undesirable. It warned of the repercussions, and Lex felt hopeless. Her plan had been to get a degree to appease her parents then move back to the world she had loved. Now, it seemed her birth had denied her that dream.
The last bit of uni was done robotically. She attended classes, completed her work with slight impact on her grades (studying had never been heavily required so long as she did her homework), and had little contact with the few friends she had made. Those who shared her dormitory avoided her as she became moody and withdrawn.
Graduation was another day. She was excited, yet the excitement was dulled by her feelings toward the wizarding world. On a whim, she applied to a job with MI5 and recently received it after a lengthy process. She begins her job in the weaponry department of MI5: Paranormal tomorrow. Little does she know what she is getting herself into.
ANYTHING ELSE? Lex has a pet cat, .
